We are WEAK! We, as a nation, follow the path of least resistance. 97% of the 40,000 people polled in the United States on being overall HEALTHY, FAILED! Low Body Fat, Healthy Eating, Moderate Exercise and Not Smoking were tested... and we FAILED horribly. This makes me so sad as our nation is so fortunate. We are an educated people. We have tools and people to help us all around. We should know better. So what's the problem?
I believe the SPIRITUAL aspect is the missing piece many of us overlook. Who doesn't want to be less angry, more positive, a better parent or a more loving spouse? Strengthening our spiritual health is the key and has a profound effect on our overall health.
Last week at The Journey Church, Boise, my pastor Mike Boswell spoke on getting healthy, and how important the spiritual health aspect is. He outlined exactly how we can work on this very important part of our Health.
1. We have to have a Thriving RELATIONSHIP with GOD!
We have to fight for change! We need to be so unhappy with the status quo that we make an effort to make a change. God instructs us to live in relationship with Him. It is what He intended for us.
2. We need to get GOD's WORD into US!
We become spiritually UNHEALTHY when we're not being FED and nourished by God's WORDS! We eat daily all the world has to offer us. We take in all the sin we see, justified by the world's standards. But without a DAILY dose of God's word, guiding us and reminding us how we're intended to live, we become drained,...weak. We don't filter the decisions we make through the Lord's eyes, we filter them through the eye's of the world.
3. Spiritual Health includes PRAYER and WORSHIP
We must not only read and digest God's words, we also must grow our relationship with Him through prayer. Spending time giving thanks for all we have and asking for His guidance and help. We don't hear because we don't take the time to LISTEN.
We also need to spend time in worship with Him. Allowing our God to touch our inner most being. Allowing Him to speak and whisper into our hearts while we let go of everything else around us and focus only on the goodness of Him.
Over the past few years, I've truly discovered the difference worship has made in my life. I practice yoga in WORSHIP and am overwhelmed with gratitude and strength. I listen to contemporary christian music in my car and am more patient and refreshed. At home I turn the radio on and am full of joy and peace- not yelling at kids with anxiety and tension. This has changed me more than I can put into words.

HOW? MAKE AN ACTION PLAN!
Get a bible.
I deeply encourage you to try the New Living Translation (NLT) if you're new to
the bible, or having a hard time understanding what you're reading.
Pray before you start. Asking God to reveal Himself to you in His words can change everything. It also gets you into a great practice of daily prayer.
Get a reading plan.
I've included a 64 Day Reading Plan below, incorporating New and Old Testament and approximately 10-15 mins of reading per day.
Most bibles have them included, or you can look online.
Journal what stirs in your heart.
God will speak, you will learn and have questions. You will also quickly forget. WRITE IT DOWN. Whatever you want to write, write. Maybe it's a scripture that speaks to you, maybe it's a prayer you've prayed or seen answered; write it down!
PERSEVERE to HEALTH
Getting healthy is not one giant step or leap. It is a lot of little steps you must take in the right direction. Be patient with yourself and don't give up. You might start strong and fall. Get back up and start again. These changes are to be part of a new you. A healthier, stronger you.
James 1:2-4 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
